As a veteran lift truck service technician for over 35 years, I have experienced many arduous tasks in performing my day to day duties. One of which I discovered at a very young age while working with my father, who was also a lift truck service technician for many years. You see, I was the one that had to remove the often tight and always disgusting battery caps from the customer’s battery, allowing my father to inspect and add any necessary water! Then, of course, I got the unpleasant task of putting the caps back on the battery. “Lucky me”! For some reason, I didn’t realize until many years later the importance of having a safety tool to remove and install these battery caps on industrial lead acid batteries.
While working at a local lift truck dealership I decided that I’d had enough of dealing with the hassles of these grimy battery caps and made myself a tool that would end my nightmare forever. It worked well! No more dealing with the tight caps covered with sulphuric acid, using my bare hands! Life was finally good! Well maybe not that good, you see I had used a piece of steel pipe that I had ground four notches into one end and attached a screw driver handle to the other. It was functional, however it had one major flaw! One of the biggest issues that I had in dealing with the battery caps was that I didn’t like handling them with my bare hands. As anyone knows that has ever checked the water level on an industrial lead acid battery, wearing gloves simply doesn’t work! The gloves are always too bulky to get between the plastic covers that protect the battery’s buss bars!
And so the idea for the Cap-Off Safety Tool was born! Although the Idea began to take shape in 2002, it really started to come together in September of 2009, when I had the fortune of meeting my business partner, and the whole Cap-Off concept really began to materialize. With patents in place and Cap-Off Inc. registered, we began the construction of the first mould to produce this very unique safety product!
Today, from a dream many years ago, the Cap-Off Safety Tool is available to everyone that has to perform the task of checking and refilling the water levels! With its capabilities to remove and retain most of the battery cap designs found worldwide, this product has truly revolutionized the battery maintenance process! Now battery maintenance can be competed safely while wearing protective gloves at all times, and by adding the advantage of the “T” handle design to fulfill its ergonomic solutions this challenging task has finally been overcome!
I hope that you enjoy the safe solutions that the Cap-Off Safety Tool provides and I look forward to reading your comments and experiences while using our unique product as part of your day to day duties!
Best Regards,
